Dear Activist,
People in our neighbouring Pacific Islands aren't thinking about how climate change will affect them. They already know.
Ursula Rakova has already seen rising sea levels destroy reefs around her home in the Cartaret Islands. The changing seas and tidal surges, are causing coastal erosion, contamination of water supplies and destroying staple food crops like taro and coconut.
Climate change is destroying people’s lives and causing them to leave their homes. Ursula is being forced to relocate her community from the Carteret Islands to Bougainville, almost 100 km away. But she is fighting back.
Sisters on the Planet tells the stories of Ursula, and other women around the world, who are taking action to protect their communities from the impacts of climate change.
Hold your own “Sisters event”
Show the inspiring stories of these women to your friends, workmates and others in your community at your own Sisters event. Your event is the perfect opportunity to inspire others to take action against climate change.
Time is running out. The world meets in Copenhagen in December to form a new climate agreement. Now is the time to put pressure on our leaders. Register your event today.
Campaigning works. Thanks for taking action. Oxfam Australia's Campaigns Team.
PS. It’s easy to hold a Sisters event - we’ll provide you with everything you need. Register your event, so that Ursula has a future she can look forward to. |
